It is a big month for Breyer club releases so along with Cosimo, the Stablemate Club model Spencer is out and the Vintage Club surprised us with a gambler's choice classic Mustang Family!
Can I just tell you how excited I was when I saw the classic mustang family?! They are one of my absolute favorite vintage classic sets (can we still call them classic since it's the Vintage Club?). If you've been following the blog you've also seen this year I've been focused on filling the missing pieces of these congas in particular - so I was so so excited to see them!! This coming right on the heels of the mid-year releases which include a new Classic Arabian Mare. I am so glad to see the old Maureen Love molds are still being included in the rotation, not just for clubs and limited special runs, but in the regular line.
Alas, I am not in the Vintage Club this year. Honestly it's for the best though because I think I am a jinx for the club. Whenever I am a member the models are not big hits and I end up selling them all. Whenever I am not a member I end up loving every single one especially the gamblers! Luckily now that they have upped the total membership number they're not so hard to find on the secondary market and I was able to get three sets direct shipped for only a tiny bit above cost. I received two roan sets and one charcoal but I was also able to trade a roan set for the appaloosas.

Despite being an avid vintage collector, I have never been particularly fond of the old style red roans and even more so not a fan of the modern attempts at reproducing that color. However I have to say that this is the closest/most accurate reproduction of this color that I have seen! I wasn't sure I was going to keep a roan set but they ended up being pretty nice so that I will be hanging on to them for the conga.

Above is the mare with my original vintage Running Stallion (most of the roans I do have are because they have a sticker) and it is a really good match. I know Breyer has been working on building out their vintage archive so that they can more accurately recreate some of these iconic colors and patterns. I would say it has been successful!

The charcoal set is absolutely stunning! Vintage glossy charcoal has always been a favorite and what's not to love? They really nailed this color as well with the beautiful shading and subtle pinking. These also really harken back to the Hagen Renaker roots for me - which is also what Breyer was going for in the 1960s in wanting their models to look like chinas. The gloss really makes them pop!
My appaloosas are still enroute but from what I've seen in the in-hand photos they look a little more like a 1990s reproduction than a 1960s one with their perfect circle spots, but it will be interesting to see! And hey I guess 1990s is vintage too these days #old
Moving to minis, I'm in the minority here but Silky Sullivan is one of my favorite of the G1s. I was really drawn to him as a kid and he remains a sentimental fav. I also love this appaloosa pattern! This is one of the models that made me join the club and I'm really happy with him. I had him shipped with my Cosimo and I'm glad I did because it kept my Cosimo box pristine - I've seen a lot of smashed ones that shipped solo.

I think he has just the cutest face! He looks so happy!
Meanwhile in other random purchases - the purple unicorn One of a Kind hoodie kept showing up in my targeted ads and I finally decided to click on it when they were having an apparel sale. I love hoodies (even though it was in the middle of a heat wave) and the design is so cute. It was a youth hoodie though!! Argh! And they didn't have an adult version! I was bummed - but then I remembered someone saying the youth L and XL fit like adult smalls... so I decided to give it a shot and ordered a youth XL.
I'm an elder millennial so you'll have to forgive me I am terrible at selfies, but look how cute it is! And it fits with plenty of room! I'm 5'6", 140ish and usually wear a small or medium. So, that's a pro tip if you are like me and still a child and like some of the youth apparel choices better than the adult ones.
