Friday News Roundup

Happy Friday! At least on a positive note, it's starting to feel like spring is really here!

It's been quite a week of news in the Real World and I'm not going to get in to that except I did see this interesting article on projected toy prices on CNBC today: https://www.cnbc.com/2025/04/04/toy-prices-trump-tariffs-china-vietnam.html
With the 54% tariff on Chinese imports starting this week, it will be interesting to see how Breyers are affected. We know they are made in China - will they also go up 50% by fall? As you've seen in my charts, so far they've fallen 17% since the beginning of the year. It's a balancing act between a recession and lack of demand driving prices down or the tariffs driving prices up. I certainly expect old stock to continue to be on sale. If this becomes the new normal will Breyer move manufacturing again? No easy task.
But forget about that for now - in model horse land it was a busy week! The VIP swag for Breyerfest was revealed on Monday and I love it. I really love the mini backpack cooler and I'm hoping for rose gold. The tumbler is awesome and I collect pins and keychains so those are also right up my alley. Not regretting the VIP ticket choice this year!
Tuesday was April Fool's Day and I hate April Fool's Day but you can usually count on Breyer for something fun and I did enjoy their Pal O Mine gag. It was a total surprise and so fun that they turned around and offered three test runs of the palomino Nikolas via raffle (the normal mold version, of course). Unless I'm super lucky, there goes my conga! But I thought that was a really fun gag and then giveaway for the fans. Good luck to everyone who put their name in!

In another surprise move they also released another series of the April Fool's blind bag stablemates. Nobody was expecting another set since last year's still haven't sold out but I'm thrilled they did! The choices of homage models this year are excellent. I haven't bought my set yet but I'm hoping to eventually get all four again this year. You can purchase them here
I especially love seeing the G1 Arabian Mare. I'm thrilled the G1s are back in the rotation for more than just the SM club and she's a perfect mini-me for the PAM she is mimicking. People were surprised the Belgian was on Georgio and not the G3 Belgian - maybe they decided it was too similar to Priscilla or maybe it is just that Georgio is more popular.
It looks like Maddox sold out as well - I wasn't paying close attention to see exactly when, but when I checked this week he was no longer available. I will probably see if I can handpick one at BF this year for my conga - I am still just not entirely happy with the one I received even though he is ostensibly "fine."
